The Harz mountains, plants and animals
The Harz mountains is a very large national park of 15.800 hectars with reletivaly low population: 106 inhabitants per square kilometer against 227 inhabitants per square kilometer in Germany.
Because of this, the flowers and animals have the change to live and to grow in population. It wouldn't suprise you if I told you that the Harz mountains have a big variety of rare plants and trees.
Mostly the animals have the space they need and there are several breeding programs to support some species.
One of those breeding programs is specified to the Eurazian lynx, a native animal of the Harz mountains.
At the Rabenklippe, close to Bad Harzburg, people have created the Luchsgehege (lynx area) where these animals are fed and prepared for release in the wild. Although these animals are very shy, you don't have to be suprised to see signs of a lynx in the wild.
Other native animals of the Harz mountains are the deer, the wild hog, the wood grouse, the racoon and the black stork.
